vivo launched the Y500 in China last September, and now a different Y500 family is ready to become available in other markets, comprising three members. One of those is the Y500 that vivo has just started teasing in Nepal.
The phone looks nothing like the Chinese Y500 — a shared name for two completely different products, a common practice from Chinese companies for different markets as we just saw with OnePlus Pad 3 Pro.
The phone has been teased to feature an AMOLED screen with "1.5K" resolution and an 8,100mAh battery. There's also what vivo describes as a "trendy camera design" on board, as well as an "ultra fast & powerful" SoC that unfortunately hasn't been officially revealed yet.
AMOLED with 1.5K resolution (typically 1080×2400 or slightly higher per Chinese definition) in a budget phone is a pleasant surprise. An 8,100mAh battery is massive for this segment — competing with Poco X8 Pro (6,500mAh) and Redmi Turbo 5 (7,540mAh).
A recent Google Play Console listing revealed it is the Unisoc T7300 at the helm, paired with 8GB of RAM. The Y500 will run Android 16 with OriginOS 6 on top.
Unisoc T7300 is a Chinese budget processor supporting 4G only — this likely means the global Y500 is a 4G phone not 5G, contrary to what some might expect from a phone with an "ultra fast & powerful" chipset per the teaser. Unisoc makes capable budget processors but doesn't compare to Snapdragon or Dimensity in the same price range.
The initial launch targets Nepal and emerging Asian markets — markets focusing on value for money where 8,100mAh with AMOLED represents a distinctive offering. Full details on the three variants haven't been revealed yet.
