Android phones naturally slow down over time due to accumulated cache, background apps, and storage filling up. Here are the most effective fixes.
Restart regularly — Reboot once a week to clear RAM and stop stuck processes. Most people never restart their phone for weeks at a time.
Uninstall unused apps — Go to Settings → Apps and remove anything you don't use. Unused apps often run in the background, consuming resources.
Clear app cache — Settings → Apps → select a heavy app (Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp) → Clear Cache. Use Files by Google for safe bulk cleanup.
Remove home screen widgets — Each widget refreshes data constantly, draining RAM and CPU. Remove weather, news, and social widgets you don't actively need.
Reduce animation speed — Enable Developer Options (tap Build Number 7 times), then set Window Animation Scale, Transition Animation Scale, and Animator Duration Scale to 0.5x. The phone will feel noticeably faster immediately.
Keep 15–20% storage free — Low internal storage significantly slows Android. Back up photos to Google Photos and delete old files.
Update the OS and apps — Updates often include performance improvements and security fixes.
Switch to a lighter launcher — For older phones, try Nova Launcher or Lean Launcher instead of the manufacturer's heavy default launcher.
Factory reset as a last resort — Wipe and restore to factory defaults to start fresh. Back up all data first.
