Yesterday a leak brought renders of Samsung's upcoming smart glasses, and we obviously assumed these would be called Galaxy Glasses. Now, Samsung has pretty much confirmed this through an app update.
We're talking about the Nearby Device Scanning app, which is part of Samsung's One UI on Galaxy phones and tablets, and ensures you can quickly connect to nearby devices — like the upcoming Galaxy Glasses. The second row of the app's latest changelog references "Glasses quick pair" as being supported, as well as "battery pop up" for them.
Reliable leakster OnLeaks shared renders based on "real life pictures of a testing stage unit" of the glasses codenamed Jinju. The device is set to launch without a display, making it a Meta Ray-Ban competitor powered by Android XR.
This is different from the previously leaked Haean glasses — which will feature a display similar to XREAL One Pro and is set for a 2027 launch.
Galaxy Glasses are designed to deliver a seamless, intuitive user experience, powered by the Android XR operating system and Samsung's proprietary Gemini AI technology. They run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 chipset and weigh just 50 grams.
Key features include: a 12MP eye-level camera for capturing photos and videos effortlessly; integrated directional microphones and speakers for hands-free calls and audio; touch-sensitive controls embedded in the frame for navigation via taps, swipes, and gestures.
The absence of a display simplifies the device, reduces power consumption, and makes it more accessible for everyday use. Samsung's focus on AI-driven practicality positions the device as a stepping stone toward more advanced iterations in the future.
Jay Kim, executive vice president at Samsung's mobile business, said Samsung has other products like the smartwatch or phone if a user needs a display.
Samsung is reportedly planning to unveil Galaxy Glasses at Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22, where Z Fold 8, Z Flip 8, and Galaxy Watch 9 will also be announced.
Galaxy Glasses are expected to cost in the region of $379 to $499 when they ship. The premium Haean model with a micro-LED display is expected in 2027 for $600-$900.
Meta's Ray-Ban glasses dominate the smart glasses market with 82% global share, according to Counterpoint Research. EssilorLuxottica announced that it had sold 7 million pairs of smart glasses — giving Meta a massive lead in the market.
