Samsung is expected to launch its next foldables in July. Recent leaks suggest that the rumored wide-screen foldable could be called the Galaxy Z Fold8, while the Galaxy Z Fold7 successor may be known as the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. Ahead of anything official, the wide-screen foldable has been spotted in real-world images.
Images of the alleged wide-screen Galaxy Z Fold8 have surfaced online courtesy of a user on South Korea's DC Inside community forum.
This type of real-world leak is particularly significant as it confirms the device's actual existence and proximity to launch — engineers and testers carrying pre-launch devices tend to attract observers' attention.
The device appears to be wrapped in a protective anti-leak case that conceals most of its design details. However, the phone's noticeably wider form factor is clearly visible, along with what appears to be a dual-camera setup on the rear.
The wide form factor is the core change that distinguishes Fold8 Wide from Fold7 — rather than the traditional narrow aspect ratio when folded, the new device offers a ratio closer to square when folded, making the external screen wider and more usable without opening the phone.
Leaked renders have suggested that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 wide will offer a 7.6-inch inner display with a crease similar to the Oppo Find N6.
Comparing the crease to the Oppo Find N6 is a meaningful statement — the Find N6 is known for having one of the least visible foldable screen creases on the market, making the usage experience more natural and less distracting. Samsung is targeting this quality level in the Fold8 Wide.
Recent leaks suggest that the rumored wide-screen foldable could be called the Galaxy Z Fold8, while the Galaxy Z Fold7 successor may be known as the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.
This is a significant naming logic change — previously Fold was the primary name and Ultra was the top tier. Now it appears Fold8 (Wide) will be the primary name while the smaller traditional version (Z Fold7 successor) moves to the Fold8 Ultra name. This may reflect Samsung betting on the wide format as the main direction for the future of the fold line.
