After revealing new details about Samsung's upcoming wide-screen Galaxy Z Fold8, tipster Ice Universe has now shared fresh information about the successor to the Galaxy Z Fold7, which is widely rumored to launch as the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.
The tipster claims that the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra will maintain the same 215-gram weight as the Galaxy Z Fold7. However, the upcoming foldable is tipped to pack a larger 5,000mAh battery.
Samsung offered a 4,400mAh battery on the Z Fold7. According to the tipster, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra will support faster 45W charging.
Increasing from 4,400mAh to 5,000mAh while maintaining the same 215-gram weight is a genuine engineering achievement. The likely method is stacked battery technology allowing greater capacity in the same space. Samsung has adopted this in Galaxy S-Series but applying it in foldable phones is far more complex.
The 45W charging is an improvement over Fold7 — Fold7 supported 25W. However Chinese competitors like vivo X Fold5 and Oppo Find N6 reach 80-100W in charging. Samsung's improvement margin on this point remains wide.
The upcoming foldable is also tipped to be slightly thinner than its predecessor when unfolded, measuring just 4.1mm. Aside from the reduced thickness, most of the device's dimensions and display sizes are expected to remain largely unchanged from the Galaxy Z Fold7.
4.1mm is exceptionally slim for a foldable phone — indeed for any premium smartphone. For comparison the iPhone 17 Air, the thinnest in the iPhone lineup, measures approximately 5.5mm. Fold8 Ultra at 4.1mm unfolded will redefine what "slim foldable" means.
A side-by-side comparison of the wide-screen Galaxy Z Fold8 and the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra was also recently shared by the tipster, providing a closer look at the design differences between the two devices.
These are two completely different devices in philosophy — Fold8 Ultra is the direct Fold7 successor with a narrow long aspect ratio when folded similar to traditional phones. Fold8 (Wide) is a new design with an aspect ratio closer to square when folded with a wider, more usable external screen.
Samsung is rumored to announce both foldables alongside the Galaxy Z Flip8 at an event scheduled for July 22.
July 22 is Samsung's Unpacked event in London — one of the most anticipated launch events of the second half of 2026 with three foldable devices to be unveiled simultaneously.
