Samsung Brings One UI to Laptops — Galaxy Book With Android 17, One UI 9, Aluminium OS, Galaxy AI and Improved DeX in 2026

Samsung and One UI on Laptops — A Leap Toward a Unified Ecosystem

According to a new rumor, Samsung is currently working on Galaxy Book branded laptops that will run Android 17 with One UI 9 on top.

Samsung has traditionally developed Galaxy Book with Windows and currently offers just one Chromebook for $775. The Android move represents a strategic shift toward a unified experience across all its products.

Aluminium OS — The Likely Operating System

Before thinking that's insane, remember that Google itself is in the very lengthy process of merging ChromeOS with Android. What will come out of that is Aluminium OS, which itself is based on Android. It's not clear if these Samsung laptops will actually run that, or if the Korean company is developing its own One UI 9 layer for laptops to simply overlay on normal phone-oriented Android 17.

Google antitrust case documents show Aluminium OS's "fastest path" involves offering it to commercial trusted testers in late 2026, with a full release in 2028. Samsung's rumored lineup runs in the opposite direction from a managed-IT rollout.

Three Tiers — An Option for Every Budget

Samsung is developing three tiers of Android-based Galaxy Books: budget, mid-range, and flagship. The flagship version is reportedly said to feature a very sleek design.

One UI 9 for Laptops — Improved DeX and a Clear Identity

As for One UI 9 for laptops, it's probably going to be and look like an improved version of DeX.

DeX on these laptops "should" integrate well with DeX on Galaxy phones and tablets.

Galaxy AI Across All Devices

The upcoming laptops are expected to include Galaxy AI features which are currently available on Samsung's smartphones, smartwatches, and tablets.

The goal: a user who works on Galaxy S27, Galaxy Tab, and Galaxy Book with the same AI interface, same files, and same memory.

Timeline — Google I/O Starting Point

It's unclear when these devices are coming, but they could land before the end of the year. If that's the timeline, expect to hear plenty more about them in the coming weeks and months.

The next real checkpoints are specific: Google I/O next month where Android 17 and Chromebook OS direction could be formally confirmed, and any Samsung demonstration of Android-based DeX or continuity features running on laptop hardware.
