Facebook Stories were originally designed for light, quick content — spontaneous moments that don't need a long duration. That's why Facebook set a maximum limit of just 25 seconds for videos in Stories. If you try posting a longer video directly from the camera roll, the app automatically cuts it into multiple segments — each 25 seconds — and publishes them as separate Stories.
This is very frustrating, especially when posting a cohesive video like a continuous speech, a beautiful nature scene, or any content you want to keep intact.
The smart workaround using a simple trick: send the video through the Messenger app then share it directly to the Story from within it — this bypasses the restriction entirely.
Just three things: Facebook app updated to the latest version, Facebook Messenger app updated to the latest version, and the video you want to post saved to your Camera Roll with a duration exceeding 25 seconds.
No additional apps are needed and no paid subscription — this method is free and works on all iPhone models running iOS 14 and above.
Step 1 — Send the Video via Messenger
Open the Facebook Messenger app. Open any existing conversation — it can be your "Note to Self" conversation or any friend's conversation. In the message bar at the bottom of the screen tap the photos and media icon (looks like a photo or a box with mountains inside). Camera albums will appear — find the long video you want and tap it to select it. Tap "Send" and wait for the upload and sending to complete.
Step 2 — Open the Sent Video
After the sending completes tap on the video inside the conversation to open it full size. Wait for it to start playing.
Step 3 — Access Sharing Options
In the upper right corner of the video screen you'll find the three dots icon (···). Tap it to open the options menu. From the menu choose "Share."
Step 4 — Add Optional Story Edits
After tapping Share you'll move to the Story editing screen. Here you can add text, a sticker, or edit the video as you wish. When you're done tap "Share Story."
Step 5 — Select Facebook and Choose Share Type
A list of apps and platforms available for sharing will appear. Choose the Facebook app from the list. On the next screen you'll find sharing type options — select "Story" specifically and not "Post."
Step 6 — Wait for Publishing to Complete
A black screen with a loading icon will appear — this is completely normal. Wait until the message "Shared on Facebook" appears. Do not close the screen during this process.
Step 7 — Verify Successful Publishing
Open the Facebook app and go to your home feed. Find your Story in the top strip — tap it to confirm it was published completely without cuts and in clear quality.
When you send a video through Messenger then share it to Story, the system treats it as content being reshared from within the Meta ecosystem — not a direct upload from the camera. This bypasses the 25-second restriction imposed on direct uploads.
If you want to share a very long video exceeding two or three minutes, the better option is posting it as a Facebook Reel which supports videos up to 90 seconds, or posting it as a regular video post on your timeline which is not subject to the same restrictions. For events or long occasions, Live streaming is the most suitable option.
