The Poco X8 series has been on the shelves for a while and many are wondering whether the Poco X8 Pro is enough or they need to spend a little more for the Pro Max. The price gap between the two is about €100-120 in Europe or INR 10,000 in India. What does Pro Max offer extra? A more powerful SoC, a bigger display, and a significantly larger battery. Camera, charging, and design are similar.
X8 Pro: 202g, 157.5×75.2×8.4mm. X8 Pro Max: 218g, 162.9×77.9×8.2mm.
X8 Pro is smaller and lighter — suitable for those preferring compact phones. But in a strange surprise: X8 Pro has a glass back while the more expensive X8 Pro Max settles for glass-fiber reinforced plastic. It looks and feels like glass but isn't — though it's more flexible and more drop-resistant. Both carry IP68 and IP69K ratings.
X8 Pro: 6.59-inch AMOLED 120Hz 1268×2756px 460ppi 1090 nits. X8 Pro Max: 6.83-inch AMOLED 120Hz 1280×2772px 447ppi 1114 nits.
Even though the Pro Max offers a larger screen it's essentially identical to the regular Pro's. Both support HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, more than 3,500 nits on 10% white surface, and high-frequency PWM dimming at 3840Hz for people with sensitive eyes.
The Pro Max offers a huge 8,500mAh battery (9,000mAh in some regions but we had 8,500mAh for review) while the X8 Pro gets 6,500mAh. The Pro Max outlasts the X8 Pro in every battery testing scenario by 40-60% longer battery life.
Both phones support 100W wired fast charging. 15 minutes: X8 Pro → 47% vs X8 Pro Max → 37%. 30 minutes: 75% vs 65%. Full charge: 41 minutes vs 52 minutes. X8 Pro is faster by percentage because its battery is smaller — but Pro Max delivers more mAh per minute at higher checkpoints.
The two phones trade blows on speakers. For loudness choose X8 Pro Max — it's one of the loudest devices we've tested. X8 Pro has cleaner tuning with clearer vocals despite slight distortion at high volume levels. Pro Max offers more pronounced bass and fuller tracks.
Dimensity 9500s in Pro Max vs Dimensity 8500 in Pro (3nm vs 4nm). Geekbench 6: 8,539 vs 6,479 (35% advantage). 3DMark Wild Life: 6,229 vs 4,103 (51% advantage). AnTuTu 10: 2,445,108 vs 1,663,640 (47% advantage).
Both phones feature seemingly identical camera systems and both support 4K60 recording on the main camera. The only meaningful difference: 2x zoom in low light — the Pro's quality takes a significant hit while the Pro Max handles things better and offers noticeably better performance. Pro Max also has a Pro video mode with Log recording absent on X8 Pro.
The Pro Max is vastly more powerful and delivers 40-60% longer battery life than the regular Pro. You are not just getting a more future-proof chipset but a considerably larger battery that will serve you better in the years to come. The price difference is largely justified.
Get X8 Pro for: the smaller footprint, the more premium glass back, the largely similar user experience, and the lower price.
Get X8 Pro Max for: the larger display, considerably longer battery life, notably more powerful chipset, Pro video mode, and better low-light 2x zoom photos.
