CMF Phone 3 Pro — Official Cancellation Due to Forces Beyond Their Control

Nothing launched the CMF Phone 2 Pro in April of last year, and its successor is still nowhere to be seen. Last month we heard that the CMF Phone 3 Pro would arrive in the third quarter of the year, with the most likely release window being August to September.

Unfortunately, that's not happening anymore. Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis has revealed that there will be no CMF phone launch this year. The reason is easy to guess — memory prices.

The decision came from the top directly — Nothing's co-founder personally announces the cancellation on X. This is an unusual level of transparency from a tech brand — rather than silence or vague apologies, Evangelidis names the reason clearly: memory prices.

Why Do Memory Prices Hurt CMF More Than Nothing?

That's not surprising, after all the CMF line was the ultra-budget one from Nothing, and the cheaper the phone the more it's negatively impacted by surging memory prices. Evangelidis says the company simply "can't build a phone that feels like a genuine step forward at a price that makes sense for CMF".

The math is simple: a $200 phone is impacted by a memory cost increase far more than a $500 phone. If memory costs rise $20, a $200 phone is affected by 10% while a $500 phone is only affected by 4%. Nothing couldn't absorb this increase in CMF without either pushing the price outside the budget category or cutting specs in ways that would make it feel like a step backward.

What's Next — New CMF Products but Not Phones

While there will be no new CMF phone this year, "several new products" are coming from the brand, including some in entirely new categories.

CMF has proven successful across multiple categories — CMF Watch, CMF Buds, CMF Headphone. "Entirely new categories" could mean: differently designed earphones, fitness devices, smart accessories, or even budget tablets. The company keeps the ambiguity intentional to build anticipation.

The Most Important Hint — Nothing Phone (4) Coming Soon

Evangelidis has also teased a new Nothing phone coming soon — could it be the Phone (4)? We'll have to wait and see.
