Apple made history on March 4, 2026, unveiling the MacBook Neo simultaneously in New York, London, and Shanghai — its most affordable laptop ever and a direct challenge to Chromebooks and entry-level Windows machines.
The MacBook Neo is the first Mac to be powered by an iPhone chip — the A18 Pro, which debuted in the 2024 iPhone 16 Pro models.
This is precisely what allows Apple to offer the Neo at such a low price, as the A18 Pro is significantly cheaper to produce than the M-series chips used in the MacBook Air and Pro.
The MacBook Neo features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display with 2408×1506 resolution, 500 nits of brightness, and an anti-reflective coating. Notably, there is no notch — instead it has uniform, iPad-style bezels all around.
The device comes with 8GB of unified RAM — fixed, with no upgrade option — two USB-C ports, a headphone jack, no MagSafe charging, and up to 16 hours of advertised battery life.
The base model starts at $599 with 256GB storage, while the $699 model doubles storage to 512GB and adds Touch ID to the keyboard. Education customers can purchase it from $499.
Apple states the MacBook Neo is up to 50% faster for everyday tasks than the bestselling Intel Core Ultra 5 PC, up to 3x faster for on-device AI workloads, and up to 2x faster for tasks like photo editing.
Weighing 2.7 pounds and available in Silver, Indigo, Blush, and Citrus, the colored finishes extend to the Magic Keyboard in lighter shades and come with matching wallpapers.
The keyboard is not backlit and the trackpad lacks haptic feedback — deliberate trade-offs made to reach the $599 price point.
Apple describes the MacBook Neo as its lowest-carbon Mac ever, featuring 60% recycled materials — more than any other Apple product — including 90% recycled aluminum and 100% recycled cobalt in the battery.
Pre-orders opened immediately upon announcement, with the device available in stores from March 11, 2026.
