Huawei unveiled the Pura X Max earlier this month as its entrant into the large wide foldable smartphone space, one that's expected to become pretty crowded later this year with Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold Wide and, of course, the iPhone Ultra — which has definitely influenced both the Huawei and the Samsung devices even though it's not even official yet.
According to a recently leaked schematic, the iPhone Ultra measures 120.59×167.59×4.7mm when unfolded, compared to the Pura X Max's 120×166.5×5.2mm.
The numerical differences: iPhone Ultra is 1.09mm taller, 0.59mm wider, and 0.5mm thinner. Practically — two phones of nearly identical size.
Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold Wide is also said to be in the same range, reportedly measuring 123.9×164.4×4.3mm unfolded.
The form factor is pretty similar, even though the two devices have a very different camera island design. It's very obvious that the Pura X Max will compete head-on with the iPhone Ultra when that lands.
Cameras are different, and the design language is different, but the core idea is now kind of the same — wide screen, thin body, more usable space.
The iPhone Ultra will unfold into a device slightly smaller than an iPad mini but with the same tablet form factor — which makes us assume that you may get a tablet UI when the handset is unfolded.
The Huawei Pura X Max has already been launched, but only in China thus far. Samsung's wide foldable will probably arrive in July, while the iPhone Ultra is expected in September.
