Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has shared new details about the software experience on Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone, which is rumored to launch later this year with a wide inner display and a 4:3 aspect ratio.
According to Gurman, the inner display will support iPad-like layouts and side-by-side apps. The inner screen is expected to be roughly the same size as an iPad mini, prompting Apple to develop new iOS app layouts and navigation elements such as iPad-style sidebars.
The device will not support windowed multitasking like the iPad, nor will it run iPad apps. Despite the larger display and tablet-style interface, the foldable will still run iOS, with simpler multitasking elements rather than the full desktop-like interface seen in iPadOS 26.
The iPhone Fold is expected to use a new display technology designed to significantly reduce the crease on the inner screen while improving durability. The device features a hole-punch camera on the cover display, a dual rear camera setup, a hole-punch camera on the inner display, and a Touch ID sensor integrated into the power button. A recent rumor also suggests Apple may brand its first foldable as the iPhone Ultra.
