The Apple iPhone 17e went on sale today, and we picked up a unit from the store for review. It starts from $599/€700/£600/INR 64,900 with 256GB storage — last year's 16e had 128GB base storage at the same launch price. Double the storage for the same price is a meaningful improvement right out of the gate.
The iPhone 17e adds MagSafe, opening the phone to a large ecosystem of accessories and bringing it in line with the rest of the iPhone lineup. It also brings a chip upgrade in the A19 — a binned variant with a 4-core GPU — along with the latest C1X modem for improved connectivity.
What remains excellent on the 17e is the handling. Perhaps because we've grown accustomed to large phones, but the iPhone 17e feels refreshing in the hand — petite and comfortable. At just under 170 grams, it stands out in an era of increasingly heavy flagships.
The front is topped with second-gen Ceramic Shield. At the back: a single 26mm f/1.6 main camera with a 48MP 1/2.55-inch sensor. Up front: a 12MP selfie camera with autofocus. The battery remains at 4,005mAh, but wireless charging has doubled to 15W. In the box: a braided USB-C cable and SIM tool.
Ask anyone what they'd most like added to the cheapest iPhone and the unanimous answer is a ProMotion 120Hz display — with MagSafe possibly coming after that. The screen remains at 60Hz, which continues to be the most debated limitation of this device at this price point.
