How to Use Google Translate in Any App on Android — All Features

Google Translate supports over 200 languages and includes several powerful features on Android beyond simple text translation.

Tap to Translate — Use in Any App

Enable this feature in Google Translate Settings → Tap to Translate → On. Then in any app (WhatsApp, Telegram, browser), select and copy text. A Google Translate bubble will appear — tap it to instantly see the translation without leaving the app. Long-press the bubble and drag it down to dismiss.

Text Translation

Open the app, set source and target languages, tap the text field and type or paste. Translation appears automatically as you type. Tap the speaker icon to hear pronunciation.

Camera Translation

Tap the camera icon, point at any text for instant on-screen translation. Or import an existing photo. Supports 94 languages.

Voice Translation

Tap the microphone and speak. Your speech is converted to text and translated instantly. Great for travel communication.

Conversation Mode

Tap the conversation icon for real-time bilingual conversation translation. Supports 70+ languages and automatically detects which language each person is speaking.

Handwriting

Draw characters on screen instead of typing. Supports 96 languages — ideal for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and other character-based scripts.

Offline Translation

Go to Settings → Manage offline languages → download the desired language. Works for 59+ languages. The word OFFLINE appears below translations when used without internet.
