Transferring data from a PC to a phone in 2026 is easier than ever. Developers know we're all dealing with more data across more devices than ever before, which is why there are so many different methods for moving data — from cloud storage and backup apps to nearby sharing and tried-and-true USB cables.
Connect the phone to the PC via USB cable → notifications will appear in the quick settings panel → pull down the notification shade, tap the USB notification → select "File Transfer" → the phone will appear in File Explorer as a separate device allowing drag-and-drop file transfer.
On macOS: macOS requires an extra step. Install Android File Transfer from android.com/filetransfer → connect the Android device → select "File Transfer" mode from the phone's notification panel → a transfer window will automatically open on the Mac.
Understanding Android USB Modes: MTP (Media Transfer Protocol): makes the Android appear as a "media device" on the computer, operating at the file level rather than exposing raw storage — supports photos, videos, music, and documents. PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol): makes the phone appear as a digital camera, ideal for importing photos only.
On Windows: Connect iPhone via USB → if prompted to trust the device tap "Trust" on the phone → open File Explorer and find iPhone under "This PC" → open the DCIM folder to access photos and videos.
For other files (music, apps): Use iTunes on Windows or Finder on macOS Catalina and later: connect iPhone → open iTunes or Finder → select the device → transfer files via the "File Sharing" section.
Uploading files and folders to cloud storage makes them readily accessible across all synced devices. Top cloud services include Google Drive and iCloud. The greatest advantage is that it works no matter where devices are, as long as they're all connected to the internet.
Install the Phone Link app on the PC and on the phone (Android or iPhone), then complete the connection steps. After linking, sharing between the two devices is straightforward. Right-click on the file in Windows → select "Share" → find Phone Link in the app section → select the phone from the list.
Quick Share on Android (also known as Nearby Share in some regions): allows wireless file sharing between Android phones and Windows PCs via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
Download "Quick Share for Windows" from Google → on the phone: share the file → select Quick Share → choose the computer from available devices.
Send Anywhere: Select a file → the app generates a 6-digit code → the recipient enters the code on any device to download. Works across Android, iPhone, and PC. No file size cap. Free version is fully functional. Requires internet on both sides.
SHAREit: A reputable file transfer app for iPhone-to-Android and to PC. Works on the same Wi-Fi network. Open SHAREit → tap "Send" → select the data to transfer → on the other device tap "Receive."
If other methods aren't available or just a few files need to be transferred immediately without any setup, email is the best bet. Send the file as an email attachment to yourself.
