Is your internet package running out before the renewal date? Do you notice your connection slowing down because of the devices sharing the router? The solution is simpler than you think — no software required. All you need is access to your router's settings page to take full control of your internet speed. In this guide, we'll walk you through how to limit internet speed on your WE VDSL router, covering all available device models from both Huawei and ZTE, including how to set individual speed limits for each connected device.
Limiting and controlling the internet speed for devices connected to your Wi-Fi network is extremely important. If the speed is left fully open, the package is likely to run out before its renewal date due to heavy consumption and exceeding the monthly data cap — especially when connected devices are frequently used to watch YouTube, Facebook, or Instagram videos.
In short, setting speed limits gives you full control over your data usage and ensures a fair, stable connection for everyone in the household.
There are two options: the first is to limit the total internet speed on the router, which reduces the speed across all connected devices. The second is to set an individual internet speed limit for each device separately.
Important note: Only the newer routers provided by WE — formerly known as TE Data — support internet speed control. Older devices do not. The "new routers" referred to here are VDSL routers that deliver ultra-fast internet on WE's new packages, starting from 30 Mbps up to 200 Mbps.
Before doing anything, you need to log in to your router's control panel:
Simply type 192.168.1.1 into your browser and press Enter to open the router's settings page. If a warning message appears saying "Your connection is not private," just ignore it by clicking Advanced and then Proceed to 192.168.1.1.
In the Username field, type admin. In the Password field, enter the password printed on the back of the router next to the word "Password." If there is no password listed, type admin again, then click Log in.
All of these Huawei devices offer internet speed control through the Bandwidth Control feature, which allows you to fully manage the router's total data transfer rate.
Steps:
The Huawei SuperVector DN8245V is one of the latest routers offered by WE, and it has a different settings interface from previous devices.
Steps:
This router does not include a Bandwidth Control feature, so internet speed is limited by controlling ADSL Modulation — essentially disabling certain frequency bands to cap the overall speed.
Steps:
Steps:
Steps:
Go to the router settings, click Internet, then Bandwidth Control on the left, and scroll down. To manage Wi-Fi-connected devices, click Edit next to SSID. To manage cable-connected devices, click Edit next to LAN.
Under Traffic management type, you'll find three options:
The first is IP QoS classification for controlling speed via the device's IP address. The second is MAC QoS classification for controlling speed via each device's MAC address. The third is LAN QoS classification for devices connected via cable.
Select MAC QoS classification — all connected devices will appear with their MAC addresses. Choose the target device from the Mac address field, then set its maximum speed in the Upload max field. Note that speed is measured in kilobytes per second. You can repeat this step for any other device on the network.
Steps:
Limiting internet speed from the router is a completely free and highly effective solution for anyone who wants to control their monthly data consumption or distribute bandwidth fairly among household members. Whether you're using a Huawei HG630, HG633, DG8045, the newer DN8245V, or ZTE devices like the H168N, H188A, or H108N — this guide covers every scenario step by step. Once you've applied the settings, run a speed test to confirm the new limits are working correctly.
