Designs of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide have been spotted in One UI 9 firmware files from Samsung. Samsung was working on One UI 9 when its software included images of the upcoming foldables well before any official announcement.
The new foldable phones are reportedly being unveiled on July 22 in London, including the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (codenamed Q8) and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide (codenamed H8), alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 looks identical to its predecessor. We may see upgrades in build quality, screen crease, and hinge technology. Major aspects such as thickness and weight would also see a slight generational improvement.
Both phones are expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, which is also used in the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The upcoming foldable devices are also rumored to feature a crease-less OLED display, similar to the one Samsung Display showcased at CES 2026 earlier this year.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is the most intriguing reveal. Reports suggest the device could measure 123.9×164.4×4.3mm unfolded and 123.9×82.2×9.8mm folded, with a 4.7:3 outer display ratio and a 4:3 inner screen — potentially offering a more tablet-like experience.
Case renders confirm a passport-sized design with a dual-sensor camera module and an LED flash at the bottom.
By expanding the aspect ratio, Samsung is no longer treating the Fold as a phone that becomes a tablet but as a productivity machine that happens to fit in a pocket. The Wide Fold is the real disruptor — a productivity play targeting the Huawei Pura X Max and the upcoming iPhone Ultra.
One UI 9 isn't just a skin. The deeper NPU integration means Galaxy AI is moving from the cloud to the silicon itself — enabling real-time on-device translation and generative image editing without a server round-trip.
