Foxit PDF Reader, developed by Foxit Software, is one of the most capable free PDF viewers available. Beyond simply opening PDF files, it offers a rich set of annotation and markup tools that let you add content to any PDF without altering the original document.

How to Open a PDF

After installing Foxit PDF Reader (compatible with all Windows versions including 11), open the program and navigate to File → Computer → Browse to select your PDF, or click the folder icon at the top of the interface.

Key Tools

All tools are located in the top horizontal menu bar. The SnapShot tool captures a selected region of any PDF page as an image. The Typewriter tool lets you click anywhere on the page to add text — a text editor appears on the right side with full control over font type, color, and size. Note that this adds new text over the existing content — it does not edit the original text in the document.

AI Assistant

The latest version of Foxit PDF Reader includes a dedicated AI Assistant tab that can summarize, translate, and explain PDF content. To use it, create a free account on the Foxit website and follow the setup steps.
