This guide explains how to permanently block adult and inappropriate websites on Google Chrome using the Block Site extension, as well as how to block specific websites or keyword-based content filtering.
Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for Block Site, then click Add to Chrome to install it. After installation, the extension icon will appear in Chrome's toolbar.
The most powerful feature of Block Site is category-based blocking — you can block entire categories of websites including adult content with a single click. Click the extension icon, go to its settings, then click Add to Block List. From the new window, select the inappropriate content categories you want to block. You can also add specific website URLs or enter keywords — any website containing those keywords will be blocked automatically. Click Done to apply.
To block a specific website manually, add its URL through the extension's settings. To unblock a website, click the trash icon next to its name in the blocked list.
The Block Site extension only applies to Google Chrome. For comprehensive blocking across all browsers and all devices on your network, change the DNS settings on your router to a filtering DNS service such as CleanBrowsing or OpenDNS Family Shield.
