The best program for controlling devices connected to your router — enabling you to monitor your internet network, fully manage internet speeds for all connected users, and cut internet access from any device at any time. The program we'll be using is the well-known Selfishnet, considered by many to be the best tool for managing home networks and controlling devices connected to the router — whether via Wi-Fi or even a wired cable connection.
This program lets you accurately track each connected device's internet consumption, cut internet access from any device with a single click, and set a specific internet speed for each user — a cap the device will never be able to exceed.
Selfishnet is a comprehensive home network management tool. Its key features include:
Start by downloading the program file to your computer. After downloading, extract the file to find a folder containing three subfolders. Open the Redist folder and install all the programs inside it — this is the most critical step.
⚠️ Important: Installing the Redist programs — especially WinPcap — is essential for Selfishnet to function. The program will not work without completing this step.
After finishing the installation of all required programs, go back and open the SelfishNet Win 7 & Up folder — this version is compatible with Windows 7 through Windows 10 and beyond. Inside the folder, find the program's executable file, right-click it, and select Run as administrator.
A small window will appear asking you to select the network adapter you want to use — click OK to proceed.
The main program interface will then appear. Click the button in the upper-left area of the program — all devices currently connected to your router will appear in real time, effectively scanning and revealing every device on your network.
Next, click the button adjacent to the one you just clicked — this will display the real-time internet consumption of each connected device in the Download column.
In the Download Cap column, enter the speed limit you want for each connected device — once set, the device will never be able to exceed that speed. You can also set upload speed limits for each device using the Upload Cap column.
💡 Note: Speed values are in kilobytes per second (KB/s). To convert megabytes: 1 MB = 1024 KB. To remove a speed limit and restore automatic speed for a device, simply type 0 in its cap field.
The program also lets you cut internet access from any device connected to the router using the Block column on the far right. Simply click the checkbox next to the device you want to block and its internet access will be permanently cut.
To restore internet access to any blocked device, simply uncheck the Block checkbox next to it and the connection will be immediately restored.
Selfishnet is completely free and works on all versions of Windows without any issues. On top of that, it requires no complex setup and works with any router regardless of type or provider — WE, Vodafone, Etisalat, Orange, TP-Link, or even 4G wireless routers.
Selfishnet gives you complete control over your home network directly from your computer — without needing to log in to the router settings page and at zero cost. Whether you want to cap a specific device's speed, monitor who's consuming the most bandwidth, or block a device entirely, everything is available with a few simple clicks from the program's interface.
