Google has teased that 2026 will be one of the biggest years yet for Android, making this second edition of The Android Show: I/O Edition carry exceptional expectations.
The Android Show: I/O Edition 2026 begins on May 12 at 10:00 AM PT (1:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM GMT) and will be streamed on Android's official YouTube channel. Unlike last year, this year's show is fully digital with no in-person audience.
The purpose is to give Android its own dedicated stage one week before the official Google I/O on May 19-20 at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View.
Android 17 is expected to be the headline attraction. The stable public rollout is reportedly planned for June 2026 and the show could finally showcase several flagship features that have remained hidden from public beta builds so far.
Among the most-anticipated changes is a redesigned multitasking interface aimed at large-screen devices, tablets, and foldables with a more desktop-like experience. Also expected are upgraded native screen recording tools with better audio controls, improved editing options, and app-specific recording settings.
Aluminium OS is a rumored unified platform merging Android and ChromeOS, expected to bring native Desktop Mode with ChromeOS for a fully optimized large-screen interface. It could bring a taller status bar, a new battery icon, Wi-Fi logo redesign, Gemini integration, and more.
Gemini AI is expected to be a major focus, with possible reveals including Gemini 4, a new agentic AI app called Cosmos, and Project Astra.
More details on Android XR are also anticipated, teasing one of the many Samsung smart glasses expected to launch in 2026.
